From the day of its establishment at the Georgian University, great attention has been paid to the study of history. In this interview Doctor of History, Prof. Vakhtang Guruli talks about the history programs that are functioning at SANGU.
In 2008-2009, a group of historians led by Academician Roin Metreveli started developing curricula at the Georgian University. For the first time at the university we only admitted students for the bachelor's program in history, then the master's and doctoral programs were launched. From the 2021-2022 academic year, a 300-credit integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s teacher training program (history, geography, citizenship) was launched at the Georgian University. The term of study for this program is 5 years and graduates will get a Master’s degree we think this program has great prospects.
As we have mentioned, there are bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate programs in history. Admission to the Master's program is in the specialty of Georgian History. General courses are no longer read here, the program aims to enhance the knowledge gained in the Bachelor’s program with special courses. In doctoral studies the whole focus is shifted to the preparation of the doctoral dissertation.
The Georgian University has signed memoranda of cooperation with the Georgian National Center for Manuscripts, the Georgian National Archives, the Georgian State Museum and the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia. Students can do an internship at these institutions.
