The launch of the partnerships between Arizona State University (ASU) in the USA and Georgian universities was marked as part of the USAID Educating the Future program. The initiative is designed to strengthen teacher preparation and educational sciences programs at Georgian universities.

Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at ASU provides dedicated, ongoing support for the development of teacher training and education science programs at the selected partner universities:

  • Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University
  • Akaki Tsereteli State University
  • Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University
  • St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University of the Patriarchate of Georgia


On this regard, parties signed the memorandum of understanding with the formalization of these partnerships.


The event was opened by Giorgi Amilakhvari, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.


The welcome address was delivered by Robin L. Dunnigan, the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia.


On the U.S. side, the memorandum was officially signed by Professor Yveta Silva, Associate Dean of Global Engagement & Professor, MLF Teachers College, Arizona State University (ASU).

The goals of the agreement for the next four years will be achieved through the provision of technical assistance based on international practices by MLF Teachers College, ASU including developing new courses based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), strengthening the practical component for school practice, and enhancing the teaching and research competencies of academic staff. Additionally, partner universities will have the opportunity to access modern scientific literature and international academic staff and student networks.

Additionally, the rectors of the universities as well as representatives from donors’ organizations and the civil sectors were in attendance.
