On April 20, 21, and 22, 2026, St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University hosted a series of public lectures by Professor Roman Strasser on the topic “How Does the European Union Work?”.
Professor Roman Strasser, originally from Luxembourg, has been working for more than 37 years in Strasbourg at the European Parliament, in the Secretariat of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) Group. Over the years, he has held the positions of political advisor, head of the human resources department, and head of the department for intercultural and religious dialogue. He is also the first Secretary General of the European Parliament-Georgia Friendship Group.
The lectures covered the creation and development of the European Union from the 1950s to the present day, the functioning of European institutions and bodies, the specific features of the European Parliament’s work, as well as the process of developing European legislation, the role of the European Union in citizens’ lives, current challenges, and Georgia’s European and transatlantic future.
The lecture series gave students and other interested participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the institutional system of the European Union, its operating principles, and contemporary political processes.
At the end of the event, the participants were awarded certificates.
